Shot on iPhone 13 Pro
@nickysamss 2021

Let’s make
something

We did. On the iPhone 13 Pro. Shot in 4k at night all in Apple’s native camera app.

Shooting
at night.

Most smart phone cameras are amazing nowadays, but at night, not so much. It’s common that most, if not all smart phone cameras lack the sensor range required to adapt to darker shadows & low light environments.

With that said, the iPhone 13 Pro shot very well at night. As their new wide lens claims to capture 2.2x more light, we were not let down.

Low light

Everything was captured within roughly a 50 yard radius. We first shot on a sidewalk, across the street from a park (which is generally vacant after 7pm), then skipped over to the court with its two overhead high mast LED lights.

The key was to reflect and bounce our light source, that’s where Jimmy helped, our key grip.

The warm tone of the evening was produced by using reflected gold light.

Natural lights

Aside from using the two overhead court lights, we utilized light created by our environment of passing traffic near a fairly busy four-way intersection which yielded vibrant passing colors reflective from street lights, high beams, and puddles of rain from the night before.

All in
the edit

As creatives do, we embrace the process by working with the tools we’re given in hand & making with it what we will.

iPhone’s Edit Mode for both photo and video is equipped with all of the basics and features to make a few quick adjustments on the spot.

Which is helpful to see how malleable your shot is.

Quick looks

We took advantage of iPhone’s native camera app in Edit Mode to, at a glance, quickly see what we could get from our shot on the fly.

The preset filters are super useful too, especially while shooting in daylight.

Portrait Mode

As expected, iPhone’s Portrait Mode is pretty wonderful and can capture some interesting looks.

Stage Light was our go-to and achieved our overall style quite nicely.

It’s safe to say we had fun

Thanks again Team :)
